Located at the junction of great rivers and highways. Laurel is a hub and a decision point. Travelers driving I-90 from east to west can visit Laurel, take a break and decide which of the 5 entrances they would like to use to access Yellowstone Park. Laurel also serves as a hub to other areas of interest with scenic travel routes for travelers. The Chief Joseph Statue and Canyon Creek Battlefield Marker in downtown Fireman's Park commemorate the 1877 battle between the Nez Perce Indians led by Chief Joseph and the U.S. Cavalry under the command of Col. Samuel Sturgis. The Laurel Chamber also serves as the Visitor Information Center and is located in the original log structure specified by the Montana Highway Department in 1938. Local volunteers worked to restore the original character of this historic building. Inside is a pictorial history of the community of Laurel as well as traveling art exhibits.
