Children ages 7-13 and parents are invited to join Makoshika State Park staff this summer for an exciting and educational experience! Starting June 3rd Park Staff will be meeting program attendees at the visitor center every Thursday at 9:30-11:30AM, with the final session on July 29th. Children who attend four or more sessions will be eligible for an overnight campout August 4th - 5th. Participants will explore a variety of hands-on natural science topics as well as craft making, game playing, and snacks. The Summer Youth Program is free to the public. June 3 Health & fitness
Like many of us, 2020 has impacted our health and fitness. We will get the students moving through several fitness methods and teach them how to make healthy choices when eating.
June 10 Time Travel Makoshika
Students will play games and do activities to learn about what Makoshika looked like at different points in the past.
June 17 Survival School
Students will learn what it takes to stay safe and have fun in the wild by practicing skills such as the Leave No Trace principles, navigation, and fire building.
June 24 five senses outside
Students will learn about each of the five senses. This will help them identify their five senses and
utilize them while exploring in the outdoors.
July 1 Trail treats
Come see what tasty treats nature has to offer! Students will learn about all things edible at Makoshika including predator/prey dynamics, nutrient accumulation in animals and edible plants.
July 8 Ecosystems
Students will learn about all the different elements that make up an ecosystem.
July 15 smokey bear
Stop, Drop, & Roll! Students will learn about fire safety and the important role fire plays in keeping an ecosystem healthy and functioning.
July 22 let’s go fly a kite
Students will learn about wind. They will make observations and test predictions about wind. They will get to design, make, and fly kites.
July 29 game day
Students will win prizes as we play “Minute to Win It”. They will answer questions about the
programs we did over the summer to earn a chance to play a game of minute to win it.
